Treatment
At Blueprint Psychology, we offer a team of experienced and qualified psychologists who are passionate about the treatment and management of mental health, relationship, sleep and social difficulties. We also have a special interest in working with neurodiverse children, adolescents and adults, using research-based therapies that recognise the strengths, and acknowledges the challenges faced by neurodiverse people.
ADHD
Our psychologists can help with strategies to manage some of the difficulties experienced by people diagnosed with ADHD. Research suggests that cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) for adult ADHD is the most helpful approach to managing problems associated with ADHD in adulthood. In CBT for adult ADHD, a psychologist or other qualified health professional helps the person learn a range of skills that can reduce the impact of ADHD. Strategies might also range from planning and organisational skills, to therapies to manage motivation, to social skills training and emotion regulation.
Autism spectrum disorders
Our psychologists can help with strategies to manage some of the difficulties experienced by children, adolescents and adults with autism spectrum disorders. This might range from teaching strategies to manage emotion regulation, to assisting with social skills training. Emotion regulation is the ability to exert control over one’s own emotional state. People with autism spectrum disorders sometimes experience difficulty with emotion regulation. Our psychologists can also provide guided assistance with social skills training, including understanding non-verbal cues, understanding how to communicate non-verbally and how to initiate and respond to social cues.
Sleep difficulties
Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based way your psychologist can work with you to improve your sleep. It involves changing your behaviour before bedtime as well as changing the ways of thinking that keep you from falling asleep. It also focuses on improving relaxation skills and changing lifestyle habits that impact your sleeping patterns.
Sleep difficulties can be both caused by and affect emotional health problems such as anxiety, stress, and depression. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is an effective way of treating the underlying problem rather than just the symptoms. It additionally allows you to develop healthy sleeping patterns for life, which also positively impact your physical health, as well as your mental health.
Anxiety
Anxiety is a natural reaction to stressful situations. Anxiety has a vital role in telling our brains when we need to pay attention, be cautious or safe. People can be diagnosed with an anxiety disorder when anxiety is unhelpful, affects quality of life and prevents daily functioning. This kind of anxiety is different to stress. It can be hard to manage and may not get better over time without treatment. Anxiety disorders include generalised anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder and various phobias.
Treatments can involve cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), interpersonal therapy (IPT), solution-focussed therapy, gradual exposure therapies and mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, such as acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT).
Depression
A person who has a diagnosis of depression experiences overwhelming sadness, which is usually deeper or longer lasting than can be explained by events in their life.
People who are struggling with depression may have difficulties sleeping, feel fatigued and irritable. They can stop finding joy doing things that they used to find enjoyable. They may struggle to feel motivated to perform activities for daily living. They may stop wanting to be around others. Some people feel overwhelmed, lose hope and think about ending their life.
Treatments can involve risk assessments and planning, cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), interpersonal therapy (IPT), solution-focused therapy and mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, such as acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT).
